It was almost a perfect day for Zach Downs.

The University of Oklahoma second baseman displayed a hot bat today, enjoying an outstanding 5-hit day, but something was missing: The Sooners lost to the Pennsylvania State University Nittany Lions, 127-22. Downs told BNN reporters after the game that luck was "fickle."

University of Oklahoma manager Brandon Wagner told the beat writers otherwise.

"There was no luck today," he said. "He got 5 hits because he has a solid approach to hitting and he put it all together today, and we lost because the rest of us didn't put it together so well."

Zach Downs singled in the 2nd, struck out in the 3rd, hit a two-run single in the 5th, hit a two-run double in the 6th, walked in the 7th, singled in the 8th and singled in the 9th.

Thus far this year Downs is batting .477 with 20 home runs, 95 RBIs and 106 runs scored.
