Big Day for Melek: Swats 5 Hits
|
After a 5-hit effort to lead Trois-Riveres's 12-8 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes, catcher Jason Melek told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."
"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the Pioneer Baseball League-level is really something special."
The 21-year-old player earned his accolades at Trois-Riveres Community Center with a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the Goldeyes.
"His swing is getting there," said Aigles skipper Brandon Hollinger, who spoke glowingly of Melek after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Jason did that to perfection."
Jason Melek hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit a three-run double in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and flied out in the 8th.
Melek is hitting .372 for the season with 2 home runs, 26 RBIs and 31 runs scored. He has 61 hits in 164 at-bats and played in 53 games.
