Ross Ledford of the Columbus Reds was on top of his game today.
The 22-year-old tantalized the York Revolution with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest and came away with a 3-0 shutout.
"He had the changeup working," York manager Brent Bonvillain said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Columbus hurler had 12 strikeouts, gave up 1 walk and surrendered 2 hits in his complete-game effort.
Ledford told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
For the year Ledford has no relief appearances and a 7-4 record with no saves. He has logged 100 innings and allowed 54 base hits. Opposing clubs have put up a .154 batting average against him. Ledford has rung up 154 strikeouts, surrendered 9 walks and fashioned a 1.71 ERA.
