Yankees Stumble, Lose to Blue Jays
|
The New York Yankees had to reckon with Toronto Blue Jays hurler Spencer Jones. Jones, who led the AL in innings pitched with 224.0 in 2048, overwhelmed the opposition in the 8-1 Blue Jays triumph. The winner was Jones. He threw 6.2 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Pimbly Nimblebottom. The Blue Jays, at 108-42, have a comfortable 21-game lead in their division.
Toronto used a clutch at-bat from Dominik Hasek II to capture the win. The left fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Blue Jays ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
Said losing manager Ryan Barone: "It's very easy to sit in an ivory tower and critique the pitching, but the bottom line is we need to score runs."
