Crawdads Advance to World Series Friday, October 27th , 2051 Hickory first baseman Tsutomu Irie couldn't hide his reaction when asked about being named MVP of the Conference Championship. "It's a nice honor," he said, failing to suppress a wide smile. The trophy was presented to Irie moments after his club eliminated the Lake County Captains to advance to the World Series. Hickory won the final game by a score of 11-6 at Classic Park and took the series 4-2. "We won the series and that's the main thing," Irie said. "They were a tough team and we didn't want to take anything for granted." For the series, Irie hit .375 with a .400 on-base percentage. He had 4 home runs, drove in 7 RBI and scored 4 runs. "He was tough to stop and that's a big reason they're there and we're here," said a dejected Lake County manager Andrew Korman. The World Series matchups and schedule will be announced after the Conference Championship finishes. |
