Mets Fall Short, 3-2, at Chicago

The Chicago Cubs defeated the New York Mets, 3-2, in National League action at Wrigley Field. Chicago pitcher Mac Donovan had a standout performance. The winning pitcher was Donovan, now 10-9. He tossed 8 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 4. Ernie Ibayashi recorded the save. In save chances, he's now 40 for 44.
Chet Butler did the little things right to help the team for Chicago. The two-time Gold Glove Award winner had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With no one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Chad Jones. It was his 47th RBI of the season.
"Bottom line," said New York skipper , "we didn't play well enough to win."
The Cubs, now 84-72, have won 4 in a row.
