Raucous U.S. Cellular Field Crowd Propels White Sox to 7-3 Victory; Series Tied at 3
|
The Chicago White Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays will take the Divisional Series to a decisive 7th game. In a must-win situation today, the White Sox beat the Rays 7-3 at U.S. Cellular Field to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Chicago right-hander Mario Méndez had a big role in the win. He threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball.
Gar Martinez, the Chicago designated hitter, contributed a 2-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the score 2-0, White Sox. For the game, Martinez was 2 for 5 with 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.
Martinez called the win "a collective effort."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago.
