Riding the 3-hit performance of shortstop Luis Whittaker, the New York Mets stopped the visiting Chicago White Sox, 8-1, in Game 3 of the World Series today. Whittaker went 3-4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 4 for the Mets, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 2 games to 1.

In the bottom of the first, Whittaker had one of his most important at-bats: a 2-run home run off Carlos Castillo that staked the Mets to a 2-0 lead.

Whittaker attributed the win to "everyone pulling their weight."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Citi Field in New York.
