Timberjacks Can't Finish, Lose 6-4
|
The Portland Timberjacks got a superb performance from pitcher Chad Hamilton. Still, it wasn't enough to beat New York. The Yankees won the game, 6-4. Hamilton threw 5.1 innings of shutout ball. River Morris, the winner, improved to 5-4. He held the Timberjacks to 3 runs on 6 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 3. Chuck Bennett locked down his 13th save.
New York used a clutch hit from Pat Morán to get the win. The pinch hitter drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Yankees ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a doozy.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Morán told the New York Daily News.
The first-place Yankees sport a record of 22-18.
