Twins Stun Indians, 5-0
|
The Cleveland Indians and Minnesota Twins were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
Cleveland got a terrific performance from pitcher Shumkichi Watanabe, but it wasn't enough to beat the Minnesota Twins. Minnesota won the Jacobs Field contest, 5-0. Watanabe threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. The winner in relief was Jermaine Griggs. He is now 1-1. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings.
Minnesota used a clutch hit from Edgar Cruz to get the win. The center fielder drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Twins ahead, 3-0. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a doozy.
"Nice to keep our winning streak intact," said Cruz.
The last-place Twins now have a 4-game winning streak.
