The Boston Red Sox struggled at the plate today against Indians hurler Doug Major, who shackled them on 3 hits while hurling a complete game 4-0 shutout.

"What can you say? We didn't hit well," said Red Sox skipper in postgame comments. "Hopefully we shake this off and bounce back tomorrow."

Major finished the game with 9 strikeouts and 1 walk in an excellent mound performance.

"He pitched real well," Cleveland manager Gary Davis said. "Doug made pitches when he had to. He hit his spots and did a great job of mixing in his changeup and using his fastball effectively."

Currently Major has a 7-3 won-lost record in 12 starts with a 2.70 ERA. He also has 62 strikeouts in 70 innings.
