Behind a fine performance from George Brett, Jr., the Chicago White Sox knocked off the Portland Timberjacks, 10-3. Brett, Jr. went 4-4 with 2 home runs and 2 singles. He drove in 6 runs and scored twice for the White Sox. Chicago, at 41-28, is 6½ games up in the American League Northern Division.

Brett, Jr. contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Chicago in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 2-1, Brett, Jr. took a fastball from Clarence Martínez and stroked the home run to right. His 11th home run of the season allowed the White Sox to leap in front, 4-2.

"The name of the game is scoring runs," Brett, Jr. said. "We did a good job of that today."
