|
Houston wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Diego Núñez, falling to the New York Yankees, 4-3. Núñez threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. New York reliever Chuck Bennett was the winner. His record is now 2-2. Héctor Trujillo took the loss. The third-place Yankees raised their record to 52-55.
The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With New York trailing 3-1, Pat Morán hit a curveball from Héctor Trujillo to right for a 3-run home run. Just like that, the Yankees had a walk-off win.
"The ending was a real humdinger," Morán told reporters after the game.
