|
Starting pitcher Don Wiley took care of business, helping the Portland Timberjacks stifle the Seattle Mariners, 2-0. Wiley, now 4-1, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 6, walking 1, and allowing no runs. Earning his 16th save of the year was Curt Carlisle.
Portland used a well-timed hit by Jarred Martínez to capture the win. The first baseman socked a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Timberjacks ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"It was just a matter of executing," said Portland manager Dan Heffelfinger.
This loss makes it 6 in a row for Seattle.
