Portland Timberjacks starter Vern Brown turned in an exceptional performance against the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field, resulting in a Portland win, 4-1. Brown got the win, improving to 10-6. He allowed 2 hits and walked 2 over 5 innings. Brown allowed no runs. Curt Carlisle was called on to finish, recording his 17th save.
Portland used the timely hitting of Raúl Romero to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Timberjacks ahead, 3-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"Can't say enough about our pitching," said Romero.
Portland now sits at 65-73, while Seattle falls to 56-82.
