Cubs Rally Late to Nip Phillies
|
Philadelphia got a terrific performance from pitcher Chad Lee, but it wasn't enough to beat the Chicago Cubs. Chicago won the Citizens Bank Park contest, 6-5. Lee threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. The win belonged to Derrek Márquez in relief. His record improves to 1-0. LeRoy Oswalt took the loss for Philadelphia. Now 11-2, the 2071 Cubs have been sensational so far.
Dudleyville, Arizona-born Don Flowers came through in the clutch. In the top of the ninth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the Cubs trailing 5-4, he hit a 2-run single to center to put Chicago on top.
"We came in and got the job done. That's what it's all about in this business," said Flowers.
