|
San Diego right-hander Jerry McCall pitched his team to victory over the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park. The final score was 5-1. The winning pitcher was McCall, now 3-3. He tossed 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 5. Enrique Valéncia converted his 1st save in 1 tries.
San Diego used a well-timed hit by Curt Phillips to capture the win. The catcher socked a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Padres ahead, 2-1. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," McCall said after the game.
The Padres sport a record of 22-33.
