The Boston Red Sox beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 5-1. Boston center fielder Victor Almonte deserved the lion's share of the credit. Almonte was 3-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Red Sox. Mike Lancour went 6 innings for Boston to pick up the win. The right-hander was charged with no runs. He scattered 3 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 4. His record improves to 9-6. Chris Hutto picked up the save, his 25th.
Boston took the lead on Almonte's 4th home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which came against Trevor Stephan in the bottom of the sixth, made the score 2-0, Boston.
"I thought we played a nice game," Almonte told the Boston Daily. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
At 52-54, the Red Sox find themselves in third place in the American League East Division.
