Smokies Move on to Round 2 Tuesday, October 2nd , 2029 Double-A South fans were certainly not disappointed with this Double-A South Round 1. The two teams were evenly matched and the series went to the final game, with the Tennessee Smokies prevailing over the Birmingham Barons to advance to the Round 2. Tennessee won the final game by a score of 3-1 at Regions Field and that sealed the series 4-3. "Things were tense in our clubhouse and dugout before and during this game, but we can let loose a bit now -- the hard work is over, for now," said third baseman Josh McElroy, who earned MVP honors. For the series, McElroy hit .333 with a .394 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, 4 RBI and scored 9 runs. The Tennessee Smokies will play against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in the next round. Pensacola won their series against the Mississippi Braves 4 games to 3. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes. View Boxscore |
