Arizona got an elite performance from starting pitcher Mike Goodfriend in taking a 3-0 decision over the Kansas City Royals. Frank Cain earned the save, his 40th. The Diamondbacks' win now puts them at 87-55.

Goodfriend earned the win to move to 10-4. In his 8-inning performance, he scattered 1 hits, striking out 9 and walking 3. The left-hander allowed the Royals few scoring opportunities.

"I had a good game plan," said Goodfriend. "I made my pitches." His manager concurred. "It was all there," Tony de Anda said, "the velocity, the sharpness of his pitches."
