Wild Card Series Goes the Distance, Dakota Prevails
The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat were on full display tonight at Rider Field as the Wild Card Series stretched to the final game.

It was the Dakota Rattlers feeling the thrill of victory, with a 10-9 win over the Washington Palace Nine, who were feeling the devastation of coming up short in their quest to make the League Championship Series.

"There's no way around it -- this sucks," said Washington manager Manny Trillo. "Congratulations to Dakota, but I won't sugarcoat it, no one is happy about anything that transpired here tonight."

Instrumental in the 4-3 series win was right fielder Mitch Tyler, who was named MVP. He hit .346 with a .419 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, drove in 6 RBI and scored 4 runs.

"We've got the most important stat of all and that's this final win -- that's the one that matters," he said.

The Dakota Rattlers will play against the Beaverton Bulldogs in the next round. Beaverton had a bye in the Wild Card Series. The League Championship Series schedule will be announced after the Wild Card Series finishes.
