Win Makes Boston 21-20
|
The Boston Red Sox topped the Colorado Rockies by the score of 5-1, with the largest share of the credit going to right fielder Bill Smith. Smith went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice for the Red Sox. Boston reliever Bill Bowen picked up the win, raising his record to 3-0. Alfred Bailey was tagged with the loss. Boston has now won 4 in a row.
Smith had a game-changing home run in the top of the seventh. On a 2-1 slider from Alfred Bailey, he banged a 2-run home run to right-center, giving the Red Sox a 3-1 lead. It was the 13th home run of the year for Smith.
"It was a good effort all around," said Smith.
