Reds Stay Hot, Beat Marlins, 5-0
|
Cincinnati starter Don Kowalchuk put a stranglehold on the Miami offense. The right-hander had complete command of his fastball in leading the Reds to a 5-0 win. Kowalchuk, now 3-1, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 6, walking 0, and allowing no runs. This win makes it 5 in a row for Cincinnati.
The Reds got a big at-bat from designated hitter Rubén Reyes. For the game, Reyes was 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 8th home run of the season gave Cincinnati a 2-0 lead.
"This team is real focused right now," said Cincinnati manager Sean Bain.
