League Championship Series Goes the Distance, Washington Prevails
|
The Washington Nationals are off to the World Series after an exciting League Championship Series triumph.
Washington downed the Cincinnati Reds, but needed the entire series to do so, with a 7-5 win tonight at Great American Ball Park wrapping up the series 4-3.
"It's every guy in this room that made this happen. Without us all pulling in the same direction, we don't win this series," said Aureliano Cervantes, who earned MVP honors for a standout offensive series.
Cervantes put up a .414 with a .469 on-base percentage in the series. He also had 2 home runs, drove in 6 runs and scored 4 runs himself.
The Washington Nationals will play against the Detroit Tigers in the next round. Detroit won their series against the Houston Astros 4 games to 2. The World Series schedule will be announced after the League Championship Series finishes.
