Várquez Blasts Tigers, Nationals Take Game 4, 6-5
|
Handed an opportunity to take a commanding lead in the World Series, the Detroit Tigers could not close the deal.
Game 4 went into extra frames and the Washington Nationals emerged victorious, taking a 13-inning, walk-off win by the final score of 6-5. Washington third baseman José Várquez was 3 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once in the win at Nationals Park today to drag the Nationals back to parity. The clubs are now tied 2-2 in the best-of-7 series.
The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the 13th. With no one out, Várquez hit a sinker from Juan Ríos for a solo home run. The Nationals, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
"By the skin of our teeth, man," Várquez told the Washington Daily News. "But hey, it still counts. A few more by the skin of our teeth is fine with me."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Sunday, November 6th , 2067.
