Tigers Walk It Off for 63rd Win of Season
|
The Detroit Tigers beat the Minnesota Twins, 9-8, at Comerica Park. The win was largely due to the efforts of designated hitter Chris Gómez, who captured player of the game honors. He went 4 for 6 with a double and 3 singles. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. The win was credited to Rob Richardson in relief. His record improves to 5-7. Bill Martin took the loss. Detroit, at 63-98, occupies third place in the American League Central Division.
An important at-bat for the Tigers came in the bottom of the seventh, when first baseman Cole Parra stroked a run-scoring single. That made the score 7-6 in favor of Detroit. For the day, Parra was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once.
"Our guys just had that look of determination," said winning manager Gary Altman.
