Nationals Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Warhounds
Washington beat Carolina at Nationals Park, escaping with a 6-5 win. The win in large part was due to catcher Ken Pope, who earned player of the game honors. He went 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Washington is now 88-73, 2 games up in the National League Southern Division.

Andre Summers, not known for his power, had a big at-bat with no one out in the bottom of the ninth. That's when he connected on a cutter from Ethan Malley for a solo home run. His 17th home run of the season put Washington in front, 6-5.

"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Summers.
