Loss Extends Los Angeles Losing Streak
|
The Oakland Athletics defeated the Los Angeles Angels, 5-4, at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. Oakland designated hitter Mel Wolfe was named player of the game for his superb performance. He was 3-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. George Briggs got credit for the win, improving to 8-10. He allowed no runs on 3 hits in 3.1 innings. Jesús Hernández locked down his 2nd save.
Oakland took a 5-4 lead on Wolfe's 39th home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which he hit off Byron Crews in the bottom of the seventh, propelled Oakland to the win.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Los Angeles manager Max Steckler. "But we decided not to take it."
The Angels, now 54-108, have lost 7 straight.
