The Kansas City Royals did just enough to secure a victory over the Houston Astros, 4-3, at Kauffman Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher António Velásquez. Kansas City reliever Thomas García picked up the win, upping his record to 3-1. Manuel Ibáñez absorbed the loss. The win gives Kansas City a season record of 26-24.
In the bottom of the tenth, Andrés Mota had a chance to deal the knockout blow. And he did, punching a run-scoring single to left off Houston pitcher Cecil Pearce.
"Big win," said Velásquez.
