Cardinals Clip Indians, 5-4
|
St. Louis Cardinals starter Kenny Jacobs was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Cleveland Indians, 5-4. St. Louis reliever Juan Aguilar was the winner. His record is now 3-5. The losing pitcher was Joe Thompson. Eitoku Kishita recorded the save, his 16th.
Had Ric Hodges not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Hodges hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Cardinals.
"Kenny was pounding the zone," said St. Louis manager Ron Harrison.
The win elevated the Cardinals to 37-31.
