Pirates Curb Mets, 2-1
|
The rain could not dampen the enthusiasm of Pittsburgh fans at PNC Park.
In a low-scoring contest, Pittsburgh pitcher Larry Lillibridge was marvelous in his team's 2-1 win. Lillibridge, now 3-7, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 1 hit, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing no runs. Curt Williams was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 20 of 21 save opportunities.
Spencer Knight, the 3rd overall pick in the 2065 draft, aided the Pittsburgh cause with a run-scoring hit-by-pitch in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the right fielder drew 1 walk in 4 plate appearances.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Pittsburgh manager Brandon Kirk said.
At 30-39, Pittsburgh is in second place in the National League Eastern Division.
