Nationals Need Extra Innings to Top Braves, 7-6
|
The Washington Nationals withstood an impressive performance by Atlanta second baseman David Miller to defeat the Braves, 7-6, at Turner Field. Miller was 4 for 7 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Ned Nichols picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 3-0. Gary Camp was tagged with the loss. The win for the Nationals lifted their record to 52-18.
Logan O'Neill went 1-4, while adding 2 RBI for Washington. The 28-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the 16th. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 6-6 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Gary Camp. It was his 14th RBI of the season.
"We had a chance to win," said Atlanta manager Jay Amado, "but we didn't get it done."
