New York Loses Again, 8-4
|
Juan Baca was instrumental in his team's 8-4 triumph over the New York Mets. The shortstop went 3 for 4 with 3 singles, while scoring 2 for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The win was credited to Jesús Ferrer in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Ed Walker took the loss. Getting the save was Curt Williams, his 19th.
Pittsburgh used the bat of George Alexander to get the win. The third baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Pirates ahead, 6-3. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"We came in and got the job done. That's what it's all about in this business," said Alexander.
New York is still trying to get off the schneid, having lost 6 in a row.
