Padres Edge Orioles, 5-4
|
The San Diego Padres overcame a fine performance by Baltimore third baseman Jaromir Koudelka to defeat the Orioles, 5-4, at Petco Park. Koudelka went 2 for 2 with 2 singles and a walk, while scoring 2 times. Roberto Campos, who went 5 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 5 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 4. His record now stands at 6-5. The Padres saw their win-loss record go to 30-43. At the same time, the Orioles fell to 46-27.
The Padres got an important contribution from center fielder Iwao Sato, who in the bottom of the third punched a 2-2 fastball into center for a 2-run double. It was his 11th double of the season and put the Padres ahead, 4-1.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Baltimore manager Brandon Margolies.
