Big Day for Cervantes as Twins Down Nationals, 12-6
|
The Minnesota Twins topped the Washington Nationals by the score of 12-6, with the biggest share of the credit going to second baseman Jamal Cervantes. Cervantes was 2-4 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 5 for the Twins on the day. Minnesota reliever Wes Bell picked up the win, upping his record to 4-3. Al Helton absorbed the loss. The win for the Twins lifted their record to 44-31.
Minnesota first baseman Geoffrey Foster contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball into center field for a 2-run single. It was his 92nd hit of the season and put the Twins ahead, 9-5.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Twins manager Brian Odeja. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
