Mets Stumble, Lose to Rangers
Good production from right fielder Cary Mench helped the Texas Rangers topple the New York Mets, 8-1. Mench was 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Rangers. Texas starter Joe Wheeler was credited with the win after throwing 79 pitches over 5.2 innings. His record now stands at 9-2. The win elevated the Rangers to 58-27.

Mench made an early impact for Texas when he stroked his 13th home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which came in the bottom of the second, put the Rangers on top, 6-0.

"When this team comes together and plays the way we can, we can compete with anyone," said Mench. "I think we're going to keep proving that."
