Nationals Win at San Francisco, 6-2
|
San Francisco got a big-time effort from pitcher Francisco Mendoza, but it wasn't enough to keep the Washington Nationals from winning the game, 6-2. Mendoza came in in relief and pitched to 24 batters for the losing team. Earning the save was Peter Smith. He's now cashed in 20 of 23 save opportunities. The Nationals, at 62-29, have a comfortable 19½-game lead in their division.
Iemochi Sasaki, the 27-year old center fielder , had a direct impact on the outcome. Sasaki contributed a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put Washington up, 5-0.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Washington manager Ryan Martin.
