Late Magic Gets Pittsburgh 6-4 Win
No one was more impactful than Jerry Gates in the 6-4 Pittsburgh win over Philadelphia. Gates, who finished 5th in the NL in hits with 187 in 2064, went 2-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 times. Bill Pomeroy picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-2. John Willett was tagged with the loss. With the win, Pittsburgh pushed its record to 52-43.

Pittsburgh used a clutch hit from George Alexander to get the win. The third baseman drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Pirates ahead, 6-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"Feels good to get the job done," Gates said after the game.
