Nationals Earn 3-2 Win Versus Padres
|
Washington rode a decent outing from starter Fernando Icaza to victory over the San Diego Padres. The final score was 3-2. Peter Smith converted his 22nd save in 25 tries. The first-place Nationals, at 67-34, now lead their division by 19 games.
Washington used a clutch hit from Shao-qi Ng to get the win. The pinch hitter drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Nationals ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a doozy.
"This was a tough loss," said San Diego manager Harold Cornish. "It'll stick in my craw for a while."
