Reds Sneak Past Mets, 2-1
|
In a low-scoring game between the Cincinnati Reds and the New York Mets, pitcher Roy Bailey was masterful on the mound. The Cincinnati right-hander spearheaded his team's 2-1 win. Ernesto Zavala, credited with the win, is now 4-5. He allowed no runs on 1 hit. Nick Thomas finished the game for Cincinnati and earned his 15th save.
Cincinnati needed the clutch hitting of Javier Gómez to notch the win. The first baseman hammered a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Reds on top, 2-1. For the game, Gómez had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"I had one goal in mind," said Bailey. "Keep pounding the zone."
New York has now lost 5 straight.
