Pirates Improve to 57-45 with 7-1 Win
|
2070 is shaping up to be a forgettable year for the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Pittsburgh Pirates got a stellar performance from pitcher Gerardo Piñeiro, who handcuffed the Milwaukee offense en route to a win, 7-1, at PNC Park. Piñeiro picked up the win for Pittsburgh, going 5.2 innings. He gave up 1 run on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 9-7. The save went to Brian Giarratan, number 1 for him.
The Pirates got a big at-bat from designated hitter Zong-yuan Yue. For the game, Yue went 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 39th home run of the season gave Pittsburgh a 4-1 lead.
"If the personal accolades come, so be it," said Piñeiro. "I just want to win ballgames."
The Pirates lead the National League Eastern Division by 8 games.
