Great Effort by Stairs Wasted in 9-6 Mets Loss
New York left fielder Rich Stairs pounded Cincinnati Reds pitchers at Citi Field, but it was not enough to keep the Mets from falling, 9-6. Stairs belted 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. Cincinnati pitcher Rick Vinson got the win. He's now 10-5. Ryosei Wada was tagged with the loss. New York is still trying to get off the schneid, having lost 7 in a row.

Cincinnati used the bat of Guo-xiu Tse to capture the win. The left fielder jacked a 3-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Reds ahead, 4-1. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a dandy.

"Winning is contagious," said Tse. "We're looking forward to the next game."
