Narrow Win Takes New York Streak to 9

Both teams had their chances, but the New York Yankees eventually prevailed.
The New York Yankees had to overcome a good performance from Detroit pitcher Loren Simpson to claim a 2-1 win at New Yankee Stadium. Simpson went 6.2 innings and allowed 1 run. Guillermo Rodríguez earned the save, his 28th in 28 tries.
Tony Aponte, who is tied for 2nd in the AL in stolen bases with 27, helped out the New York cause in the bottom of the seventh inning with a run-scoring double. For the game, the shortstop went 1-3 with a double.
"There's a lot of good karma around our club," said winning manager Mac Mckenzie.
