Fans saw a dandy of a game between the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins.
The Boston Red Sox did just enough to secure a victory over the Minnesota Twins, 4-3, at Fenway Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Kelvin Doyle. The winning pitcher was Doyle, now 5-8. He tossed 5 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 4. Maarten Buys was credited with the save for Boston, his 8th of the season.
The Red Sox got an important contribution from designated hitter Dwight Vogel, who in the bottom of the fifth knocked a 2-2 cutter into right for a 2-run home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season and put the Red Sox ahead, 3-2.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Boston skipper Mike Miller. "I can't complain."
The last-place Red Sox raised their record to 42-61.
