The Texas Rangers picked up a win at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, knocking off the Montreal Expos, 5-3. On the mound for Texas was right-hander Francisco Martínez, who played a pivotal role in the win. The Rangers lead the American League Southern Division by 13 games.

Claudio Valenzuela, who finished 2nd in the AL in triples with 10 in 2062, helped out the Texas cause in the bottom of the fourth inning with a bases-clearing double. For the game, the shortstop went 1 for 4 with a double. He drove in 3 runs.
