The inspired effort of Carolina designated hitter Miguel Angel Andrade was not enough to prevent a loss, 6-5, to the Los Angeles Angels. Andrade was 3-5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 3. Mark Liñares snagged the win in relief. In 1.1 innings, the right-hander allowed no runs on no hits. He's now 6-2 on the season. Carolina, at 48-58, has lost 7 straight.
Jeff Vaughn was the walk-off hero for Los Angeles. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Angels center fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring double to send the teams home.
