The Boston Red Sox did just enough to secure a victory over the Texas Rangers, 3-2, at Fenway Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Pedro Tobías. Maarten Buys finished the game for Boston and earned his 9th save. The loss makes Texas 79-36.

Michael Barnes dealt the Rangers a blow in the bottom of the fifth. Batting with a runner on 2nd and Boston leading 2-0, Barnes, who finished 5th in the NL in hits with 184 in 2067, hit a 3-1 changeup for a run-scoring single.

"This was a tough loss," said Texas manager Danny Sheehan. "It'll stick in my craw for a while."
