5-1 Win Takes Rangers to 86-39
|
The Texas Rangers got a stellar effort from pitcher Joe Wheeler, helping Texas score a win over the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-1. Wheeler went 5.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 7. His record improves to 13-4. The American League Southern Division-leading Rangers have a record of 86-39.
The Rangers got a big hit from left fielder Cary Mench. In the bottom of the sixth, Mench pounded a solo home run to center. His 17th home run of the season put the Rangers ahead, 2-0.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Rangers manager Danny Sheehan, "I like our chances."
