The Boston Red Sox had to overcome a big game from Carolina right fielder Tony Flores to leave War Hounds Ballpark with a victory. And they did, winning 7-4. Flores was 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs. Maarten Buys earned the save, his 12th in 16 tries. Boston is now 55-71, Carolina 58-68.
Boston used a clutch hit from José García to get the win. The third baseman drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 6-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," García said after the game.
