Marples hits 2 home runs in Yankees Win
The New York Yankees beat the Washington Nationals, 4-2, at Nationals Park. The win was due in part to third baseman Matt Marples, who was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Guillermo Rodríguez earned the save for New York, his 32nd of the year. With the win, New York pushed its record to 65-63.

With New York leading 2-1 in the top of the fifth, Marples hit a fastball from Dan Gallaghe for a 2-run home run. It was his 37th home run of the season and put the Yankees ahead, 4-1.

"Nice, tidy little win," Marples said after the game.
